Migrating from Stocky: the complete guide

MyWorks team

Shopify is retiring Stocky on August 31, 2026. After that date, the app - and the purchasing history inside it - is no longer accessible. If Stocky runs your purchase orders today, you need two things before the deadline: a copy of your data, and a system to keep working in on September 1.

This guide covers both. It takes most stores well under an hour.

The deadline, plainly

  • Until August 31, 2026: Stocky works normally. Its data is reachable through the app and its CSV exports, and Stockroom’s one-click importer can read it directly.
  • After August 31, 2026: Stocky is gone. There is no grace-period export. Anything you didn’t bring with you stays behind.

The practical consequence: even if you’re not ready to switch apps yet, export your Stocky data now. An export you never need costs you ten minutes. A missing export costs you your vendor history.

What Stockroom imports automatically

Install Stockroom free from the Shopify App Store, and the onboarding offers a Stocky import. While Stocky is still online, the importer connects directly and brings across:

  • Suppliers - contacts, currencies and tax settings, with lead times observed from your actual order history rather than whatever was typed into a settings field years ago.
  • Your full PO history - every purchase order with its real status: draft, ordered, partially received, received. Not just open orders. This is what keeps your vendor purchase history queryable after Stocky is gone (“what did we pay for this SKU last autumn?”).
  • The receiving timeline - which deliveries arrived when, in full or in part.
  • Adjustments and stocktakes - optional, if you want count history along too.

Two things worth knowing about how the import behaves:

  • It doesn’t touch your Shopify inventory. The import creates documents and history inside Stockroom. Your live stock levels stay exactly as they are - Stockroom never takes over your inventory; it writes through to Shopify only when you take an action that should.
  • It runs in the background. Large histories keep importing while you continue setting up.

If you’re reading this after the shutdown

The one-click import needs Stocky online. After August 31, the path is CSV: Stockroom creates purchase orders from CSV uploads, and suppliers import from CSV as well. If you exported your Stocky data before the deadline, you’re fine - it just takes a few more minutes than the one-click path.

If you didn’t export and the deadline has passed, start fresh: Stockroom’s install-time sales scan builds reorder suggestions from your Shopify sales history, so you’re not starting from zero even without Stocky’s records.

A sensible migration checklist

  1. Export from Stocky today - suppliers and purchase orders at minimum, whether or not you migrate today.
  2. Install Stockroom (free, no credit card) and run the Stocky import from onboarding.
  3. Spot-check the history - pick a supplier you know well and confirm their POs, statuses and receiving dates look right.
  4. Review reorder settings - Stockroom suggests reorder points from your sales; confirm or override them per product. Your pack sizes and minimum order quantities live here too.
  5. Cut over your open POs - finish receiving anything mid-flight in Stocky, or recreate open POs in Stockroom so receiving happens in one place from now on.
  6. Connect QuickBooks if you use it - Stockroom pushes POs and bills to QuickBooks Online or Desktop through MyWorks. Entirely optional; Stockroom is complete without it.

What changes for the better

Stocky was good software with a hard ceiling. A few things longtime Stocky users notice immediately:

  • No POS Pro requirement. Stocky needed a POS Pro subscription; Stockroom works on any Shopify plan.
  • Incoming stock still shows in Shopify when you mark a PO ordered - the “feels native” moment Stocky owned is here too.
  • Landed cost is built in. Freight and fees allocate across receipts into true unit costs - a gap that quietly cost Stocky merchants margin for years.
  • Counting got serious. Blind counts, cycle-count schedules, no-login counting links for staff, and stamped audit exports.
  • It’s free. No PO caps, no trial clock, no credit card at install.

Common questions

How long does the import take? Most stores are done in minutes; big PO histories finish in the background.

Can I run Stocky and Stockroom side by side? Yes, while you verify the import. Just do your receiving in one system so nothing lands twice.

What does Stockroom cost? Nothing - purchase orders, receiving, suppliers, counting, labels, alerts and reports are all free. The only paid piece is MyWorks Sync, our accounting sync, if you want your purchasing flowing into QuickBooks.

The deadline is real, but the move is small: install Stockroom, run the import, spot-check a supplier, and get back to work. And whatever you do this week - export your Stocky data before August 31.
